From The Times comes news of a back-to-basics push in French Primary schools. This minister had this to say:
“It's not by listening to a great pianist for hours on end that you become one, it's by doing your scales.”
One commenter said:
The comparison with learning one's scales is apt. Music teachers have resisted the educational fads of the past 40 years, because, I think, the terrible results would be immediately obvious. Math and English teachers have the luxury of experimenting whilst pushing the prolbem on down the road.
I though you might like that one, Jack!
